U.S. IOOS Award Provides $2.2 Million for Ocean Observations and Forecasting in the Northeast

U.S. IOOS recently announced that NERACOOS has received a new 5-year cooperative agreement that will continue to support the production, integration, and delivery of ocean observations and forecasts in the Northeast. NERACOOS information is relied upon to support safe and efficient maritime operations; to understand and forecast changes in our oceans and climate; to prepare for and respond to coastal disasters; to balance the needs of coastal resource use, economic development, and for environmental stewardship.

The $2,276,000 received from the U.S. IOOS Program represents the first year of a new 5-year cooperative agreement. The majority of the funding will be distributed among the NERACOOS operational/research partners to sustain the data collection and forecasting efforts of the program, please see map below.
